How to compare tire reviews without getting misled

Separate controlled tests, owner experiences and manufacturer claims.

The useful answerPrefer evidence that names the tire, size, vehicle, conditions and method. Do not combine unrelated star ratings into an invented overall ranking.

Ask what was actually measured

A controlled braking test answers a specific question. A comfort impression answers another. Owner reviews can reveal recurring concerns, but the vehicle, mileage and expectations can vary widely. Keep those evidence types distinct.

Read manufacturer test footnotes. Check the named competitors and whether the test compares previous-generation products.

Choose the tradeoffs that matter to you

Build a shortlist within the correct category and size. Then assess seasonal suitability, wet performance, ride, noise, ownership cost and the evidence available. A single final score can hide the compromise you care about most.

BuyTires publishes specification comparisons and guidance. We do not claim in-house instrumented testing and do not invent overall brand performance scores without comparable evidence.

Common questions

Are customer ratings useful?

They can provide context and reveal repeated experiences. They are not controlled measurements or directly comparable across websites.
